How do you get to Borj Nord?

On foot uphill from Bab Guissa (15–20 minutes), or by petit taxi to the base of the hill. Walking down toward the medina afterwards is easier than climbing up.

What are the opening hours?

Roughly Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–12:00 and 14:00–17:00 (closed for lunch and on Mondays). Confirm locally — hours have shifted since the 2025 reopening.

Built in 1582 by Saadian sultan Ahmad al-Mansour and modelled on contemporary Portuguese forts, Borj Nord houses Morocco's first arms museum (founded 1963) and offers one of the widest panoramic views over Fes el-Bali. Reopened in March 2025 after extensive renovation.
