The golden gates of Dar al-Makhzen at Place des Alaouites

Chat with us
The Royal Palace of Fez, or Dar al-Makhzen, is the official royal residence in the Fes el-Jdid district. Its most famous feature is the set of monumental brass gates at Place des Alaouites, built between 1969 and 1971 and framed by fine zellij tilework and carved cedar. The palace itself is a working royal residence and is not open to the public, so visitors admire the gleaming gates from the square outside.
