Chat with us
Perdicaris Park, also known as the Rmilat Forest, is a public woodland park of around 70 hectares on the hillside west of Tangier, on the road toward Cap Spartel and overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. It takes its name from Greek-American Ion Perdicaris, who built a summer estate here in the 1870s and was famously kidnapped in the 1904 Perdicaris affair. The forest was rehabilitated in 2017 with trails, picnic tables and playgrounds, and the restored Château Perdicaris now houses a cultural heritage centre.

FAQs

In May 1904, Greek-American Ion Perdicaris and his stepson were kidnapped from this estate by the bandit leader Ahmed al-Raisuni. US President Theodore Roosevelt sent warships to Tangier, and the crisis produced the famous slogan 'We want Perdicaris alive or Raisuni dead'. Perdicaris was released in June 1904.
