The Tangier American Legation is a museum and cultural centre in the Tangier medina, housed in the building given to the United States by Sultan Moulay Suliman in 1821. It served as the American diplomatic mission for 140 years and is the first American public property abroad and the only US National Historic Landmark located in a foreign country. Today it holds a museum, research library and the Paul Bowles Wing devoted to the expatriate writer.
