La Palmeraie is Marrakech's historic palm grove, a vast oasis of over 100,000 date palms spread across roughly 13,000–15,000 hectares north-east of the medina. Traditionally traced to the Almoravid foundation of the city in the 11th century, it was watered by khettaras – underground channels tapping groundwater from the Atlas foothills – and today mixes old palm stands with resorts, golf courses and camel and buggy trails.
