Royal Palace & Mechouar
EXTERIOR ONLY
Dar al-Makhzen, the Royal Palace of Rabat, is the primary residence of King Mohammed VI and the administrative seat of the Makhzen — Morocco's royal court. It was rebuilt in the early 19th century by Moulay Abd al-Rahman and heavily extended through the 20th century. The palace itself is closed to the public, but visitors can walk into the Mechouar — the huge walled parade ground in front — to photograph the green-tiled gates, the Royal Guard, and the white palace facade. The most photographed gate is Bab Soufara.

No. The palace is a working royal residence and remains closed to all visitors. You can, however, walk into the Mechouar — the big walled parade ground in front of it — and view the gates and facade from a distance.
