Borj Adoumoue

OLD BASTION

Borj Adoumoue is one of the corner bastions of Salé's old sea wall, built in the 17th century during the corsair republic of Rabat–Salé–Kasbah des Oudayas to defend the Bou Regreg estuary from Spanish and Portuguese raids. The Alaouite sultans later reinforced it with additional gun emplacements. Today the bastion sits on a grassed platform above the beach, still with original canons in place, and offers one of the finest sea-to-city panoramas in the region — Atlantic on one side, Salé medina on the other.

FAQs

Take the tram across to Salé and walk or short-taxi to the seafront near the old cemetery. Alternatively, cross by rowboat ferry and walk up through the medina — it's about 25 minutes on foot.
