Bahia Palace

Late-19th-century vizier's palace, 150 rooms on 2 hectares

Built in stages between the 1860s and 1900 by grand viziers Si Musa and his son Ba Ahmed, the Bahia Palace covers nearly 2 hectares with around 150 rooms organised around riads and courtyards. Its painted cedar ceilings, sculpted stucco and zellij are among the finest expressions of late Moorish architecture in Morocco.

Bahia means 'the brilliant' in Arabic and was reportedly the name of Ba Ahmed's favourite wife. The palace was named in her honour when the second phase of construction was completed in 1900.
