How do you visit the Palmeraie?

The Palmeraie is a large, partly residential area northeast of the medina rather than a fenced park, so most visitors reach it by taxi, rental car or an organised tour. Activities such as camel treks, quad and buggy rides and horse-drawn caleches are arranged through local operators on site.

Is the Palmeraie worth visiting?

Yes, especially if you want a break from the medina and an outdoor half-day. The old palm stands, sandy tracks and Atlas backdrop make it a scenic setting for a camel ride or buggy tour, though parts of the oasis are now given over to resorts, villas and golf courses.

Traditionally traced to the Almoravid foundation of the city in the 11th century, it was watered by khettaras – underground channels tapping groundwater from the Atlas foothills – and today mixes old palm stands with resorts, golf courses and camel and buggy trails.
