How do you reach the White Dune?

The dune lies well out on the lagoon, roughly 40 km from Dakhla town. Most visitors reach it on a 4x4 desert-and-lagoon excursion or by boat, while advanced kitesurfers ride down to it as a downwind spot at the right tide.

Is the White Dune surrounded by water?

It depends on the tide. At low tide the dune stands amid flat turquoise shallows and exposed sandbanks, while at high tide the lagoon water can surround it almost entirely, which is why tide timing matters for any visit.

The White Dune, or Dune Blanche, is a tall crescent of pale sand that rises from the Dakhla lagoon on the peninsula's eastern shore, around 40 km from Dakhla town. At low tide it is ringed by mirror-flat turquoise shallows; at high tide the water can surround it entirely. Climbing to the crest rewards visitors with a sweeping 360-degree view over the bay, its sandbanks and wading flamingos, making it one of the region's most photographed natural landmarks.
