Porto Rico Beach (Plage Portorico) is a wild stretch of golden sand backed by dramatic cliffs on the Atlantic coast south of Dakhla. Sheltered by its rock walls, the water is calm and clear, and the beach is known for its sense of isolation, rich birdlife and rock formations. It lies close to the Tropic of Cancer and is a favourite for Saharan bivouacs under the stars, as well as swimming, snorkelling and kitesurfing when the north wind blows.
