La Mamma has been on Rue Tanta in Rabat's Ville Nouvelle since the 1980s and is the city's default Italian. A wood-fired pizza oven at the front, a mid-sized dining room with checked tablecloths, and a full bar have made it a fixture for embassy staff, Moroccan families, and anyone who wants pizza instead of tagine. Thin-crust pizzas, generous pasta, Italian wine by the glass; honest prices, no-drama service. A branch in Agdal serves the same menu.
Why eat here
- Everyone needs a break from Moroccan food on a long trip, and La Mamma is Rabat's answer to that. It's also a good window onto Rabati professional-class life — diplomats, journalists, and expats eat here in rotation.
Best time
- Weekday early-dinner (20:00) for easy seating; weekend late dinner for atmosphere. Lunch menu on weekdays with reduced prices is a good value.
How to combine
- Walk from Mohammed V Museum (15 min) or Avenue Mohammed V (5 min). Works as a pre-theatre dinner if you're catching a show at the Mohammed V Theatre on Rue al-Mansour Dahbi.
