Rue des Consuls

CARPET SOUK

Rue des Consuls runs through the heart of the Rabat medina and is the reason most carpet buyers come to the city. Historically it housed the residences of foreign consuls (hence the name); today it's where most of Rabat's Rbati carpet workshops and silver ateliers cluster. The best cooperatives open to the street and let you watch the looms working upstairs. Prices are more transparent than in Marrakech and haggling is lower-pressure.
