Why visit
- Hassan Tower is Morocco at its most ambitious and most humbled. Yacoub al-Mansour meant it to crown the largest mosque in the West after his victory at Alarcos in 1195; he died four years later and the project stopped mid-construction. What's left — a stub minaret, field of column bases, and broken qibla wall — is strangely more moving than if it had been finished. Across the plaza, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V answers the Almohad ruin with a 20th-century masterclass in Moroccan craftsmanship.
