Chefchaouen Day Trip
THE BLUE CITY
Chefchaouen, 60 km south of Tétouan in the Rif mountains, is Morocco's most photographed small town. Its medina of blue-washed walls, steep stepped alleys, and terracotta roofs climbs a hillside beneath the twin peaks that give the town its name ("two horns"). Founded in 1471, it sheltered Andalusian refugees and a significant Jewish community, and its hybrid Andalusian-Jbala identity still shapes the medina today. From Tétouan it is an easy half-day or comfortable full day.

Comfortably. The drive is 90 minutes each way, and 3–4 hours in the medina covers Place Outa el Hammam, the Kasbah, the Ras el-Ma spring, and the main blue alleys. For photographers and slow travellers, an overnight stay to catch dawn light is ideal.
