Notre-Dame de Lourdes is a post-war modernist Catholic church in central Casablanca, completed in the 1950s. Its austere concrete shell encloses one of the largest stained-glass programmes in North Africa — 800 m² designed by French master Gabriel Loire — and the contrast between raw exterior and luminous interior makes it one of the city's most surprising stops.
What to expect
- A single-volume nave, soaring stained-glass walls floor to ceiling, and the quiet of an active parish church. A 15 to 25-minute visit is enough.
Best time
- Mid-day with strong daylight is best for the stained glass. Avoid service times if you'd rather have space to move around.
How to combine
- A good add to a downtown architecture walk, especially if you've seen the Sacred Heart Cathedral and want a second modernist religious counterpoint.
