The Best Way to Tour Marrakech: 2CV, Twizy, E-Bike or 4x4 (2026)
Eight guided rides we sell in Marrakech, compared honestly: a chauffeur-driven 1970s Citroën 2CV from 700 MAD, a self-drive electric Twizy at 690 MAD, four e-bike tours from 400 MAD, an electric scooter and a 4x4 day in the Agafay. With prices, durations and who each one is really for.
Marrakech traffic does not care that you are on holiday. Mopeds come three abreast down a lane built for a donkey, the medina swallows your sense of direction inside ten minutes, and the Palmeraie, which looks close on the map, is a proper drive from Jemaa el-Fna. You are not going to beat any of that on foot in August. So take a seat.
The short version. If you want the city explained to you and no effort at all, book the chauffeur-driven vintage 2CV. If you want to drive something yourself, book the electric Twizy. If you want the most ground covered for the least money, book an e-bike tour. Every price below is what you hand the operator on the day, in dirham. We take nothing online.
Two cars, two completely different days
Both are private, both are priced for the whole car rather than per seat, and both put you at street level with the windows down. That is where the similarity ends: in one you are a passenger, in the other you are the driver.
Vintage Citroën 2CV, with a driver
A restored Citroën 2CV with its own driver, who doubles as the guide. One hour covers the medina, Guéliz and Hivernage for 700 MAD. Two hours adds the Palmeraie for 1,400 MAD. Five hours leaves the city altogether for the lake, the stony desert or a green valley, at 3,500 MAD. The price is for the car, up to 3 passengers, so a couple pays exactly what a solo traveller pays.
This is the one to book if you are travelling with someone who does not want to walk, or if you want photographs without organising them. The car is small and slow, which in the medina is an advantage rather than a compromise.
Electric Twizy, you drive it
A two-seat electric Renault Twizy that you drive yourself, with a local guide riding ahead so you never have to navigate. Four fixed routes of two hours each: the medina at 09:00 or 10:00, the Palmeraie at 14:00 or 16:00, a sunset loop at 19:00 and a night drive at 21:00. 690 MAD per Twizy, two people maximum, and whoever takes the wheel needs a valid licence.
Book the 21:00 if you can. Marrakech at night is a different city, the heat is gone, and a Twizy is quiet enough that you actually hear it.
Why e-bikes work here better than they should
Marrakech is flatter than people expect and hotter than they plan for. Electric assistance solves the second problem, and a bike solves a third one no car can: it goes down lanes that are simply too narrow for anything with four wheels. The straightforward city tour
Three hours through the medina, past the Koutoubia minaret and Bab Agnaou, then out to the Palmeraie. 400 MAD per person, the cheapest guided ride we sell in Marrakech. Pick this one if it is your first day and you want the landmarks with someone explaining what you are looking at.
The food tour
Three to four hours built entirely around eating: flatbread, tajine, pastries and mint tea at the places where locals queue rather than the ones with a laminated menu in four languages. 450 MAD per person, and you will not want dinner afterwards. If you only do one thing from this list, we would make it this one.
Off-road fat bikes at sunset
Three hours on electric fat bikes along the dirt tracks of the Palmeraie, with a stop at a Berber home and the sun dropping over open ground on the way back. 450 MAD per person. It is the closest thing on this page to an adventure, and the light in the last hour is the reason to book it.
E-bike plus a cooking class
Half a day: ride first, then cook a Moroccan meal with your own hands and eat what you made. 800 MAD per person, the most expensive of the bike tours and the one guests describe in most detail months later.
Electric scooter
A standing electric scooter through either the Palmeraie or the medina, 450 MAD per person. Lighter than a bike, learned in about a minute, and genuinely fun. Choose the Palmeraie route if you have never ridden one; the medina at six in the evening is a lot of scooter for a beginner.
One day out of the city
Sometimes the drive is the point, not the transport.
4x4 into the Agafay and the Atlas
A modern 4x4, not a vintage one, out to the Agafay desert, the Kik Plateau, mountain roads under the High Atlas and small Berber villages. The half day leaves at 10:00, includes a tea stop and lunch, and has you back in Marrakech around 15:00. The full day adds the Ourika and Oukaimêden valleys and returns around 17:00. From 950 MAD per person, minimum two people.

What is the best way to tour Marrakech?
For a first visit, a three-hour guided e-bike tour at 400 MAD per person covers the most ground for the least money and reaches lanes cars cannot enter. For comfort and photographs with no effort, a chauffeur-driven vintage Citroën 2CV from 700 MAD per car is the better choice. Both are private or small-group and both include a guide.
Do I need a driving licence?
Only for the electric Twizy, where you drive yourself and the operator checks a valid licence on the day. The 2CV and the 4x4 come with a driver. E-bikes and the electric scooter need no licence at all.
How much does a vintage car tour of Marrakech cost?
700 MAD for one hour, 1,400 MAD for two hours and 3,500 MAD for five hours, in a restored Citroën 2CV. Those prices are per car and cover up to three passengers plus the driver, so the cost per person falls sharply if you are three.
Can children come along?
Yes on the 2CV and the 4x4, where a driver is at the wheel. On the Twizy a child can ride as the passenger but not drive. The e-bikes and the scooter depend on the child's height and confidence, so tell us their age when you book and we will check with the operator before confirming.
When is the best time of day to go?
Early morning or after 17:00 from June to September, when the middle of the day sits above 38C. In winter the middle of the day is the pleasant part. Sunset rides, whether the Twizy at 19:00 or the fat bikes, are the ones that book out first in spring and autumn.
How do I pay?
