Opened on 29 February 2000 — the 40th anniversary of the Agadir earthquake — the Musée Municipal du Patrimoine Amazigh sits on a pedestrian street off Avenue Hassan II. Three floors and ~1,000 m² display roughly 900 documented Amazigh objects from the Souss region: silver jewellery, weaving, pottery, woodwork and carved wooden doors.
What to expect
- Three floors of jewellery, textiles, ceramics, woodwork and weapons from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a particularly strong room of Souss silver. The whole circuit is small (~1,000 m²) and walkable in under an hour and a half.
Best time
- Mornings and late afternoons are quietest. Combine it with a coffee on Avenue Hassan II before walking down toward the Corniche.
Price range
- Ticketed: the Amazigh Heritage Museum is a municipal museum and admission is charged at the door. It publishes no tariff of its own, so we do not quote a figure — expect a small municipal rate rather than a monument price.
- It is not on the Ministry of Culture ticketing platform and not one of the Fondation Nationale des Musées houses, so the national 30 Dh museum grid does not apply here.
- Hours vary by season and the museum closes on Sundays, with no published timetable to check against, so call or ask at your hotel before making a special trip. Photography inside is not allowed.
Practical tips
- The street sign just says 'Musée Municipal'. Photography inside is not allowed. Guides at the entrance can be hired for richer context — most labels are in French and Arabic only.
