M'diq (also spelled Mdiq) is a coastal town 20 km northeast of Tétouan on the Mediterranean. Historically a small fishing port, it has grown into one of northern Morocco's busiest summer resorts while keeping a working harbour at its centre. The daily fish market, the marina, and the long beach south toward Cabo Negro draw weekend visitors from Tétouan and Tangier. Out of season it is quiet, with simple seafood grills and a harbourside corniche.
What to expect
- A curved bay with a working harbour on the north end and a long beach stretching south. The corniche links marina, harbour, and restaurants. Inland the town is small — a few shopping streets and residential blocks — but the waterfront is the reason to come.
Best time
- Early morning for the fish market, lunchtime for seafood, late afternoon on the beach. June and September are ideal; July-August is crowded; winter is calm and still pleasant for a long coastal walk.
How to combine
- Stack M'diq with Cabo Negro (10 minutes north) for the cliffs or with Martil (15 minutes south) for the evening corniche. From Tétouan the loop is a 25-minute drive.
Price range
- Free: M'diq's beach is public. Under Moroccan law the shore is maritime public domain and free access to it is guaranteed, so nobody may charge you to walk on the sand, swim, or follow the seafront promenade.
- The fishing port and the marina are free to look at from the quayside as well — the boats coming in at the end of the day are one of the best things here and cost nothing.
- Only services are legitimately paid for: a lounger or parasol hired from a licensed operator, parking, a boat trip, and what you order in the fish restaurants. If a beach club fences off sand and asks for money simply to sit on it, that is not a legal fee — Morocco's municipalities restated the rule before the 2026 summer season.
