Villa du Cedre is rented as a whole house, with the pool, the garden and the terrace kept for your party. It has its own hammam, and the rooms are soundproofed. Breakfast can be served in the room and packed lunches made up for the day, which is worth taking up here because you are a long way from anywhere to buy them. Pets are allowed, there is a barbecue in the garden, air conditioning and heating throughout, and valet parking. It sleeps up to eleven, and unusually for a villa it sold at a single night on every date we probed, so a one night stop on the way to or from the mountains is possible. Bookings through the site currently take up to four guests.
This is the Ourika valley proper, about 35 km southeast of Marrakech in the El Haouz province, where the plain gives out and the High Atlas begins. It is farmland, river and villages rather than streets, and the appeal is the mountain air and the water, not amenities: nothing at all is within walking distance. The drive into Marrakech takes roughly 50 minutes. Treat it as a base for the valley and the passes above it, and count a car as essential.
