Riad Kniza dates from the eighteenth century and has stayed in the same family for more than two hundred years. It was restored by Haj Mohamed Bouskri, an antique dealer and long serving guide, which explains why the furnishings read as a collection rather than a scheme: the pieces were gathered over a working life, not bought in for the opening. It is small, and the service is family service rather than hotel service. That is the appeal and also the thing to know: this is a house that takes guests, not a property with a front desk. Choose it if you want the medina without a crowd, and a host who knows the city because he has spent his life showing it to people.
On a derb near Bab Doukkala, in the northwestern medina. Ten to fifteen minutes on foot from Jemaa el Fna depending on the route and how often you stop. Cars cannot reach the door, so arrange the arrival and travel light if you can.
