Riad Contessa & Spa is on Derb El Halfaoui, in the Bab Doukkala quarter at the north western edge of the Marrakech medina. Jemaa el Fna is about 850 m south east, a walk of some twenty minutes, and Dar el Bacha is closer still. The spa is the reason to choose it: a hammam, a sauna, a hot tub and massage treatments, with a pool on the roof that looks out over the quarter. Bab Doukkala is the north western gate quarter, where the medina meets the newer town, so taxis and buses are easy to find and the souks are a ten minute walk south east. It is a residential, working part of the medina rather than a tourist one, which keeps the evenings calm. Cars reach the end of the derb but not the door, so give the riad your arrival time.
