Assouel is a residential quarter in the northern medina, quiet after dark and without the shops aimed at visitors. The Ben Youssef Madrasa and the souks are about ten minutes south and Jemaa el Fna twenty. Bab Doukkala is the nearest gate for a taxi and the last stretch is walked.
