Palais Faraj Suites et Spa
Palais Faraj Suites et Spa is a palace hotel on the edge of the medina of Fez, with the L'Amandier rooftop looking over the old city.
Bab Ziat, Quartier Ziat, Fes Medina, Fez View on map
Palais Faraj stands at Bab Ziat, in the Ziat quarter on the upper edge of the Fes medina, where the old city meets the road. That position is the practical advantage over a riad buried in the lanes: a car can reach the door, and the whole of Fes El Bali still spreads out below the windows. There are 25 rooms and suites, larger than the riad norm and finished in Moroccan craft. The Essencia Spa runs a traditional hammam alongside massage and beauty treatments, and there is an outdoor pool in the patio. L'Amandier is the rooftop restaurant, cooking Fassi recipes with panoramic windows over the medina; the Golden Bar and the Grand Patio tea room fill the rest of the day. Bab Bou Jeloud and the Medersa Bou Inania are both around a kilometre away, and Fes Saiss airport roughly 22 km.
The Ziat quarter sits at the upper rim of Fes El Bali, so the medina begins immediately below and the modern road runs immediately above. That means both a view and vehicle access, a combination most riads cannot offer. Bab Bou Jeloud, the Blue Gate, and the Medersa Bou Inania are about a kilometre away, the Royal Palace around 2 km, and the airport roughly 22 km, a drive of about half an hour.
