Hotel Sahrai opened in April 2014 at Bab Lghoul, Dhar El Mehraz, on the hillside above the medina, on the site where Marshal Lyautey once had his summer residence. The architect and designer Christophe Pillet built it in Taza stone, carved plaster, marble, glass and terracotta, and echoed the great arches of the earlier building on the facade. There are fifty rooms and suites, between 30 and 80 square metres, most of them facing the old city and the green hills, each with a glass walled bathroom and a sunken tub. The rooftop infinity pool looks straight over the medina towards the Atlas, and the rooftop bar runs live music at the weekend. The Givenchy Spa here is the only one in North Africa, with a hammam, five treatment rooms, a sauna and an indoor pool. There is a Technogym fitness room and two restaurants. Stay here when you want the view of the medina rather than the middle of it, with a car able to reach the door.
