La Mamounia opened in 1923 on the edge of the Marrakech medina, designed by the architects Henri Prost and Antoine Marchisio in a mix of Moroccan craft and Art Deco. Its gardens go back to the 18th century, when an Alaouite sultan gave the orchard to his son Moulay Mamoun, whose name the hotel carries. The house today counts 135 rooms, 71 suites and 3 private riads. It was restored by Jacques Garcia between 2006 and 2009, with a further phase completed for its centenary in 2023.
