How long does the Ourika valley take from Marrakech?

The valley starts around 30 kilometres from Marrakech and the road ends at Setti Fatma about 60 kilometres out, so it works as a half-day or easy full-day trip depending on how far up the waterfalls you walk.

Is the walk to the waterfalls difficult?

The first waterfall is a short but rocky scramble over boulders and small bridges, not a paved path. Beyond it the route gets steadily steeper. Wear shoes with grip, and take care after rain when the rocks are slippery.

The green river valley an hour from Marrakech

The Ourika river rises in the High Atlas and runs down a valley that begins about 30 kilometres from Marrakech, ending at the Amazigh village of Setti Fatma some 60 kilometres from the city. A chain of seven waterfalls climbs the mountainside above the village, reached by a rocky footpath that starts easy and becomes steeper at each successive fall. The valley keeps terraced fields, walnut trees and riverside cafés close to the water, and it is one of the few places in the High Atlas where the endangered Barbary macaque is found. Setti Fatma holds an annual moussem, a village festival, in August.
