Who built the Dar Menebhi Palace?

The palace was built at the start of the 20th century by Mehdi al-Mnebhi, a qaid who served as minister of war to Sultan Moulay Abdelaziz. It later passed through other hands and was used as a girls' school before being restored as a museum.

Highlights include the covered central courtyard with its large brass chandelier, zellij tilework and carved cedar, a former hammam, and collections of Moroccan carpets, costumes, weapons, Fez pottery and Berber jewellery, plus contemporary art displays.

Its covered central courtyard, crowned by a huge brass chandelier and lined with zellij tilework and carved cedar, displays Moroccan carpets, costumes, ceramics, weapons and Berber jewellery alongside contemporary art. It stands on Ben Youssef square, beside the Almoravid Koubba and the Ben Youssef Madrasa.
