Why visit
- The Menara Gardens in Marrakech are one of the oldest working agricultural landscapes in North Africa: an olive grove and irrigation basin laid out in 1157 by the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu'min, still watering the same trees almost nine centuries later.
- The green-tiled pavilion reflected in the basin, with the snow-capped High Atlas behind it, is one of the defining images of Marrakech and the reason most visitors come.
- Entry to the gardens themselves is free, which makes the Menara one of the few major Marrakech sights you can enjoy without a ticket. Only the pavilion charges admission.
