Why book
- The Spa at Ryad Watier is a hammam and massage house inside Ryad Watier at 16 rue Ceuta, in the Essaouira medina.
- The hammam room is the reason to go: a vaulted tadelakt chamber with a zellige tiled fountain at the far end and a stone bench running along each wall.
- Massages are given in a separate room with three tables and carved moucharabieh windows that throw coloured light across the floor.
- Prices are published, which is unusual for a riad hammam. A traditional Moroccan hammam is 300 MAD for an adult and 150 MAD for under 15s.
- The building was a school, abandoned, then rebuilt by Moroccan craftsmen. It is named after Watier, the inspector who directed the dune stabilisation work that protected Essaouira from the sand.
