Dragon Island, or Île du Dragon, is a small rocky islet in the middle of the Dakhla lagoon, named for the dragon-like silhouette its ridge forms when seen from above. At low tide the seabed is exposed and the island can be reached on foot across the flats; at high tide it becomes an islet ringed by turquoise water, popular with catamaran, kayak and windsurf trips. Short scrambles up its rocks reward visitors with panoramic views over the lagoon and the surrounding desert.
