Almohad Walls
HISTORIC RAMPARTS
Yacoub al-Mansour intended Rabat to be the capital of the Almohad empire and enclosed it within a five-kilometre rampart of tamped earth and lime, built in the 1190s. Much of the wall still stands, pierced by three monumental gates (Bab el Had, Bab Rouah, Bab Zaer) and several minor posterns. A walk along the wall from Bab el Had to Bab Rouah to Bab Zaer maps the old Almohad city limit and passes some of Rabat's best open stonework — a quiet heritage route largely ignored by most tourists.

Yes in principle, but sections pass busy roads and the Mechouar perimeter. The most rewarding stretch is Bab el Had → Bab Rouah → Bab Zaer, about 3 km of continuous wall on traffic-calmed pavement.
