Sidi Abdeslam ben Mchich (1140–1228) was one of Morocco's most revered Sufi saints and the spiritual teacher of Abu al-Hassan al-Shadhili, founder of the Shadhiliya order. His shrine sits in a small village on the slopes of Jebel Alam in the Beni Arous region, about 50 km south of Tétouan in the heart of the Jbala mountains. The white-domed tomb, the sacred oak tree beside it, and the surrounding pilgrim village draw visitors from across the Islamic world — especially during the annual moussem in late summer.
